How To Find MBA Jobs

It may be a challenging market, but finding MBA jobs isn't impossible. With persistence, creativity, and hard work, you can find the right job.

Network. In the current market, very few MBA jobs are advertised - most come through word-of-mouth or internal recruitment. This means that you need to get the word out. Tell everyone you know that you're looking for a new MBA job. Use online social networking sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn to connect with past employers and colleagues, and get your resume in as many hands as possible. Be quick and thorough - you don't want to hog anybody's time and be a pest, but an appropriate level of professional follow-through may do the trick.

Contact recruiters. While recruiters aren't finding jobs for as many MBA grads since the recession, they are still worth a shot when combined with more aggressive job-search techniques. Contact your alma mater (both undergrad and graduate schools) and provide an updated resume to get your name on their recruitment list.

Check into small businesses. You're probably familiar with the big companies in your area by now, and your resume should be in their files. Hopefully you have several big-wig contact names in your email inbox. But in this market, you need to be aggressive in your job search, and that includes getting your name to smaller companies as well as the giants. With some basic research you should be able to put together a list of five local small businesses and get your resume to each one.

Don't overlook Uncle Sam. With billions of dollars in stimulus money, the United States government needs financial minds more than ever before. Check with local, state, and federal-level government offices for MBA job openings.
